Update on Food Allergies: Oral Immunotherapy (2026 AC Live)

Learning Objectives:

  • Apply an evidence-based approach to the diagnosis of food allergy using a focused clinical history, skin-prick testing, serum-specific IgE testing, component-resolved diagnostics, and oral food challenges while avoiding overdiagnosis based on sensitization alone.
  • Evaluate appropriate adult candidates for oral immunotherapy and discuss expected benefits, limitations, adverse effects, contraindications, and the importance of shared decision-making and ongoing monitoring.
  • Explain the principles of adult oral immunotherapy, including dose escalation, maintenance dosing, desensitization goals, and the distinction between desensitization and sustained unresponsiveness.
