• Recognize the clinical, electrocardiographic, and echocardiographic features that should prompt evaluation for hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, and distinguish HCM from other causes of left ventricular hypertrophy including hypertensive heart disease, athlete's heart, aortic stenosis, and cardiac amyloidosis.
• Apply guideline-directed initial management for symptomatic obstructive HCM — including appropriate use of negative inotropes, medications and physiologic states to avoid, and the emerging role of cardiac myosin inhibitors — and identify which patients warrant referral to a comprehensive HCM center.
• Describe the components of sudden cardiac death risk stratification in HCM and outline the recommended approach to genetic testing and cascade screening of first-degree relatives. Understand current exercise recommendations regarding hypertrophic cardiomyopathy.
