This activity discusses the pain management principles as it relates to older patients. 

Note: As of June 27, 2023, all DEA registered practitioners must complete a one-time eight-hour training requirement on the treatment and management of patients with opioid or other substance use disorders. This lecture will count as one-hour toward the eight-hour requirement. 

Learning Objectives:

• Understand the prevalence of pain in the older adult patient population 
• Recognize the impact that pain has on mortality and quality of life in the older adult
• Apply the CDC Guideline for Opioid Prescribing in caring for the older adult patient
