Learning Objectives:

In this session, you'll learn how to:

  • Understand the importance of self-care for hospitalists: participants will be able to define self-care, wellbeing, and self-help and recognize their significance in maintaining personal and professional resilience in a high-stress hospital environment.
  • Identify the unique challenges faced by hospitalists: participants will be able to identify common challenges hospitalists face, such as burnout, long working hours, emotional toll, and administrative burdens, and understand how these impact both their wellbeing and patient care.
  • Develop practical strategies for enhancing wellbeing participants will be able to create a personalized self-care plan, utilizing practical strategies such as time management tools, mindfulness techniques, and seeking organizational support to improve their work-life balance and reduce burnout.

Nicholas J. Caputo, DO FACOI is an accomplished physician with extensive experience in Osteopathic medicine primarily focusing on internal medicine, inpatient care, and end-of-life management. Born, raised, and trained in Philadelphia, PA, he relocated to Gilbert, AZ to initiate a career spanning over twenty years. During that time, he has held several roles ranging from practicing Hospitalist, healthcare consultant, and executive administrator including founding and managing partner of several private healthcare companies.

He brings his clinical proficiency, business acumen and entrepreneurial spirit to medical academia and is now focusing on his second career aimed at improving medical education, including curricular development, student achievement, development & success.

A devoted husband, father, friend, mentor, coach, entrepreneur, and community liaison, he is a strong advocate for well-being and self-care, being a longtime member of the American College of Osteopathic Internists Physician Wellbeing Committee. He has been an active member of the American Osteopathic Association, American College of Osteopathic Internists, and Society of Hospitalist Medicine. Striving for balanced work-life, Dr. Caputo prioritizes his interests in cooking, product research, music, roller skating, and sports, particularly ice hockey.

Dr. Caputo brings a wealth of expertise and passion for healthcare and Life. He is committed to education, leadership, and personal growth.
